Permanent protection with deep penetration

Concrete may appear solid, but its capillary pore system makes it highly absorbent. This makes it vulnerable to moisture-related deterioration such as freeze/thaw damage, efflorescence, and corrosion of embedded steel. By penetrating deep into the material, Komsol Seal fills voids, microcracks, and pores with stable crystals that significantly reduce permeability.

The treatment is absorbed into the surface and becomes an integral part of the concrete structure – without forming a visible film or altering the appearance. Once treated, the concrete resists moisture absorption while remaining vapor-permeable, helping to preserve both function and finish over time.

How Komsol Seal works

Komsol Seal works by initiating a chemical reaction with the free lime (calcium hydroxide) in the cement paste. This reaction produces insoluble calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), which crystallizes within the concrete's capillaries. The result is a tighter microstructure that physically blocks the transport of water and dissolved contaminants.

Unlike film-forming coatings, Komsol Seal does not trap moisture or create a barrier on the surface. It allows water vapor from inside the structure to escape, reducing internal pressure and the risk of blistering or damage. The result is a durable, breathable, and internally reinforced concrete surface.

It is suitable for both new and existing concrete, and can be applied to horizontal and vertical surfaces. For maximum waterproofing performance, the substrate should be dense, well-cured, and free from dust, residues, or any materials that could interfere with penetration.

Komsol Seal increases the pH of older, carbonated concrete, helping to restore the material’s natural alkaline environment. This reactivation of the concrete’s protective properties slows down reinforcement corrosion and further material degradation.

When to use Komsol Seal

  • Concrete exposed to moisture, chlorides, or aggressive environments
  • Waterproof below-grade structures such as foundations, tunnels, and slabs
  • Improve resistance to abrasion with >60% (CE abrasion test result )
  • Protect against carbonation in reinforced concrete structures
  • Restore alkalinity in aged, carbonated concrete
  • Surfaces where you want to reduce maintenance, extend service life, or prevent deterioration

Complementary surface protection against stains or water

While Komsol Seal provides deep internal crystallisation and waterproofing, it can also be combined with a surface sealer for additional benefits. Use Komsol Hypro for a matte, invisible water-repellent finish – or Komsol Staypro for a glossy, stain-resistant effect on exposed concrete floors. These surface products complement the internal action of Komsol Seal with enhanced surface durability and appearance control.

Komsol Seal is type-tested and CE marked for infrastructure use.
