Concrete Protection for Skateparks

When even small surface damages in concrete can lead to major consequences, the right concrete impregnation makes all the difference. Here we present examples of how Komsol®SKATESEAL is used for protecting concrete in skateparks.

Safe and Durable Skateparks with the Right Concrete Impregnation

Concrete skateparks are exposed to heavy wear from weather, the elements, and graffiti removal. Acid rain, air pollution, and frost cause concrete to deteriorate. Intense mechanical wear and chemical exposure also lead to damage in the surface layer. Over time, the originally smooth and polished surface becomes rough and increases friction. A rough and eroded surface also raises the risk of personal injuries.

If the damage process is allowed to continue, the reinforcement can be compromised, making the park unsafe — and ultimately requiring closure.

Komsol Stockholm specializes in preventive concrete protection and maintenance of concrete parks. With over 15 years of experience in skatepark renovation across Europe, we know what it takes. We train park builders, facility managers, and skate associations in how to maintain and manage their parks properly. This way, more people can enjoy them for longer — while keeping maintenance costs low.

At its core, it’s about regularly impregnating the concrete with Komsol®SKATESEAL to protect and strengthen the surface — without increasing the risk of slipping or injury. That’s why so-called “film-forming sealers” or other topical coatings or hydrophobic sealers are unsuitable, as they create a slippery and dangerous surface. Especially under damp conditions.

Concrete impregnated with Komsol®SKATESEAL is also easier to clean from graffiti and offers excellent base protection against cleaning chemicals and pressure washing.

Komsol®SKATESEAL strengthens the concrete surface and increases abrasion resistance by over 35 %. In doing so, it significantly extends the facility’s lifespan. The impregnation is completely environmentally friendly and protects the concrete surface in a natural way.

For already damaged concrete, any cracks or surface issues should be repaired first. The surface should then be restored using our flexible grinding tools, Komsol®KANT, followed by protection with Komsol®SKATESEAL.

We are happy to assist you with a thorough inspection of your park and provide guidance on any necessary measures.
